DGEO also organized several noteworthy scientific events: XIV Iberian Colloquium of Geography; III Iberian¬American Intern.Cong./VIII Nat. Meet. Hazards; I PortugueseBrazilian Meet. Geomorphological Heritage and Geoconservation; Exhibition 'Finis Portugalliae¬Nos Confins de Portugal'; 'Water, Environment and Territory' and 'Geography, Cinema and Visual Culture' seminars; 'Perspectives on Geographic Science' conference series (10).
The initiatives mentioned promote, on the one hand, synergies between DGEO and the local community, public and private sector at national and regional levels; and, on the other hand, sustain its affirmation in the context of the national and international scientific community. These collaborations and events stimulate a scientific culture directed at the economic, cultural and environmental development of contemporary society.Therefore, such initiatives concur to form reflective professionals and researchers, committed to regional and local development, encouraging the application of scientific knowledge in the valuation of Geography as a structural field of territory and society.
